Do svidania...

While searching for the right spellings I realized this is the way Russians spell this. And if you have seen the Indian movie called "Dasvidaniya" you would know this means Goodbye!

I am not very good with goodbyes...but at this stage I would do what a lot of people do...thank everyone who has been a part of this "project"!

-- Starting from my first anonymous readers...some of whom did their graduation with me. Wonder who all still read this space :)

-- Wanted to dig out the name of the first who had put in a comment. But I guess I would let it be!

-- ODM Gang - Richa, Prashant, Deepak, Rohit, Sayantani, Aseem, Ankur, Bharti, Deepti (thanks Deepti for helping me out with the template a couple of times :) )

-- Anonymous stalker...you made this journey interesting ;)

-- My school friends who used to read this space! Anu, Jyoti, Ishu, Atul...

-- People I have not met in person but came to know about through blogs and blogging! Red, Srividya, O'Hemian, Suren , me, clicks etc. Forgive me if I have missed someone regular!

-- My sister. I used to so bug her about checking my blog :D

-- Last but not the least all the people who visited this space after I shared the link as my gtalk. orkut and facebook status...and enjoyed the posts!

The good thing about bad times is that they don't last forever...but the bad thing about good times is that even they don't last forever! Change is a way of life...

I hereby declare this post, which by the way is 350th, the last post of this blog. By the way if you used to read this space...and have never/seldom commented before do it one last time! Let us see if I see a surprise :)

God Bless!

Recap - Part VIII - Photography & dfc!

Photography and photographs has indeed been a very important part of my life and this blog!

I talked about ODM in the earlier posts. Somehow things went a little awry and another group was formed that gathering of people. This was purely a photography group though! It started out as a group of people who were keen to understand the nuances of this art. And for that we needed to go out there and experiment, talk and learn from one another!

dfc started out as "Delhi Flickr Community"...and since that it has seen a lot of new expansions. Last I know it was "Da Fotography Club"!! The group today has indeed come a long way. From the first shoot of 2 participants and a group of some 5-6 people it has grown to 1443 online members! Kudos to all the people who have kept it alive!

Other than that my camera has been a very important part of my life. It has come to a point where I can never get bored anywhere if I have this part of engineering marvel with me! Off late I have undertaken small assignments for friends...and I hope I can learn a lot more through these assignments!

Not to forget my dear car that takes me places. It "happened" a month after I joined the corporate world. And I am pretty happy with the way I have treated it and it has treated me! It gave me absolute freedom about where I wanted to go and what time it was. The thought of parting with that part of my life is a little sad too :|

Going forward I hope I can build upon whatever knowledge I have about the camera and the art of photography. And also I hope I can graduate to bigger and better cars :)

Recap - Part VII - Blogging & New Social Media!

I quite enjoyed blogging and the new social media that was coming up all around us. Though a lot of people were pretty skeptical about the whole thing...not me. I really enjoyed it!

There was a group of people who called themselves "Delhi Bloggers" ( now called "Delhi's Bloggers Bloc") who started meeting around the same time as ODM, the group that I had already talked about. And like ODM they use to have meets for people to come together, meet and discuss the new media emerging.

Over the years I have attended some of the meets and I must say it was interesting. There were people who had set-up enterprises around the concepts and were very eagerly pursuing it. It was an eye opener for me to see so much work being done around it.

I had registered myself for the mailing list and it was fun interacting with people there. I still get the updated but I have not been able to go to a lot of meets with them.

Along with that one thing that always interested me was the letters to the editors in newspapers. With passing time a lot of papers have shrunk that space but not "The Hindu". In the last year I had subscribed to the newspaper and written to them on things I strongly felt about. And they have been kind enough to print the same! Felt great :)

Love it or hate it...new social media is here to stay!

Recap - Part VI - Frustated!

Going back and reading my posts mid-2006 makes me realize something that I always knew! I was not cut out for the job I had!

But it was a learning experience none-the-less. I went to stay away from home..though I used to come back each weekend. Staying away teaches you a lot. Met some interesting people in the first year as well.

Nothing takes away from the fact that I was not happy at the place I was. And it took me some time to figure out the way. The posts at that time are full of cribbing :|

Recap - Part V - Personal Stalker!

I had put up a Shout Box for interacting with the readers of this blog. That was flooded by this guy or these guys. I had to pull it down.

Then the "action" moved to comments. Started with anonymous comments. Once this started troubling me I disallowed the anonymous commenting. This guy came up with fake names. While I read through some of the comments around that time tonight it seems I was fooled some times. I thought the comments were indeed coming from Richa when as a matter of fact this guy was just using her name.

Richa I have no clue why he/she chose you! I remember as one of the tricks he came up with something very close to "Becoming a stranger to myself" as the display name! And I also read one comment of yours telling me "my stalker" left a comment on your blog too!!!

Somehow I still dont have a slightest idea who this was. I always thought it had to be someone from my class at college but there was one incident which made me think otherwise. This guy had registered a blog with my name twice . blogspot.com. If he/she knew my full name why would he/she not use my full name to register the new blog?

First thing I did after seeing that blog was to block the blog with my full name. Although I don't remember the password to it now but one thing is for sure is that no-one can use that address now!

No doubt it was frustrating. But it only help me explore more features of blogger and blogspot. To put an end to all the nuisance I moderated the comments. Thankfully it was just a passing phase (even though a long one!)...the comments have been un-moderated for quite some time now.

But one thing is for sure...it is not the best of the feeling to have a personal stalker...even though it was an online one!

PS : I have been optimistic that it might have been a girl...and therefore the he/she all along :D

Recap - Part IV - ODM happened!

Reading a lot of blogs over time made me realize blogs thrive on participation. And there are generally a closed group following the maxim - you scratch my blogs, I will scratch yours!!!

My such group came from Orkut. A small group of people decided to meet for the first time offline in the "Delhi" Community on orkut. And that was how ODMs (Orkut Delhi Meet) were born. We used to meet one every quarter and it was good fun!

And through that group I met a lot of wonderful people...and came across some great blogs! I can surely say if had not met the gang this blog might have come to an end much earlier. So a big thank you to all of you guys. If you are reading this please leave me a comment...let us see who are still around!

Recap - Part III - It's on your blog!

In the last post I had written not many people used to read my blog...but it was about to change. With no hit counter installed I anyway did not have any idea about who was reading my blog. And I was writing stuff assuming no one was reading!! I was merely guessing it because I did not get any comments! This was what happening one day in college...

I was talking to one of my classmates from college. I was not particularly friends with her. One day while chatting to kill time I started to tell her a little story...her reaction was something that surprised me. She said " I know this story because it is on your blog ". Although I knew by blogging I was exposing myself to whoever would want to probe my life I did not have the slightest idea it was being read. And she informed me my blog was being read by most of the people in my class... there was this feeling of nakedness that I felt! The amazing part was whether to feel elated about having readers or feeling bad about the fact that people knew exactly what I felt about certain issues/things even though I had taken very diplomatic position on these when discussed!!!

That did slightly change the way I wrote! I was only more determined to write things that are not very direct. It has always been an anonymous blog so no names were taken anyway. Lesson re-learnt...no names whatsoever!

Recap - Part II - What's happening?

The original idea was following but with decreased vigor as time went on.

One idea that I liked was putting up the forwards that I really enjoyed. Although I did never really mail them forward I thought this was a nice idea to pass it on to people who might enjoy it making it a "pull" rather than a "push" process...But the problem was that not many people were reading my blog!!! I wonder how many people have ever read those posts!

Besides the forwards I started to comment on things that were happening around me. This is something that really helped me streamline my thought process. In between all this I remember a time when I was not very cheerful...depression would be too strong a word to use but I know I was not in the best of spirits. This was one medium that made me think more clearly and express what I was thinking without having someone judge me by every word I spoke. All in all it helped me through some rough patches in my life...

Recap - Part I - News RoundUp!

I started blogging out of curiosity. This was my second attempt at the whole concept. The first time around I was not sure how I wanted to take this forward. Not that I was sure the second time around!

But this time I have thought about something. The aim was to crack some management exam and go and do a masters in management. For that I thought I needed to have an opinion about the things happening around me. I always kept myself informed about the things happening but it was a one way process. I saw this as an opportunity to express myself and comments on various issues. By this I wanted to improve the process of expressing myself and writing better...

So the first round went to the "news"! I pictured it as a place someone could quickly brush up the important happening in the year gone by for people appearing in the interviews and group discussions.

This was the initial idea...
